Pokemon Fire Red Fishing Rod Locations And How To Get Them

Catching aquatic creatures is an essential part of building a versatile team in Pokémon FireRed. To start reeling in wild encounters, trainers must locate three distinct fishing rods hidden across the Kanto region. Each rod unlocks higher-level species and rare encounters as you progress through your adventure.

Finding the Old Rod in Vermilion City

The Old Rod is the first fishing tool available in the game, allowing players to hook basic encounters. You can claim this item by visiting Vermilion City and speaking with the Fishing Guru. His house is located in the northwestern area of the city, right near the local Pokémon Center.

Although the Old Rod primarily reels in low-level Magikarp, it serves as a valuable starting point. Using it helps trainers register basic Water-type entries early in their journey. Simply answer affirmatively when the Fishing Guru asks if you like fishing to receive the item.

Locating the Good Rod in Fuchsia City

To hook stronger Pokémon like Poliwag or Goldean, trainers need to upgrade to the Good Rod. This item is kept by the Fishing Guru's older brother in Fuchsia City. His residence sits directly next door to the Pokémon Center in the southern part of town.

Acquiring this rod allows players to catch mid-tier aquatic species across various routes. Once inside the house, speak to the fisherman and confirm your passion for angling. He will gladly hand over the key item without requesting anything in return.

Obtaining the Super Rod on Route 12

The Super Rod is the ultimate angling tool for capturing high-level encounters and rare evolutionary lines. It is located inside a small waterfront cottage along Route 12, just south of Lavender Town. To reach this area, players must first clear the sleeping Snorlax blocking the pathway using the Poké Flute.

Inside the cottage, the youngest fishing brother will present you with the Super Rod after a brief chat. With this tool equipped, you can hook formidable Pokémon like Gyarados, Dratini, and version-exclusive encounters. It is an indispensable asset for completionists aiming to fill the regional Pokédex.
